“Cody’s Guide: How to Kayak Horseshoe Bend” is an interactive guide walking the learner step-by-step through the process of preparing for a kayaking trip in Horseshoe Bend. The guide is designed to serve as a portfolio for the client’s photography and videography, a marketing tool for the client’s guided photography trips, and a functional how to guide for would be adventurers.

Process

Cody Chewning and I began work on the project with the goal of combining his photography and videography portfolios with his blog on kayaking Horseshoe Bend to save space on his website. After our kickoff the aim of the project grew to include a marketing component for two of his services.

To start this process I facilitated meetings with my client to discuss in detail his vision for the course. We identified all media that might be needed to achieve this vision and I made note of the photos that he wanted to make sure were highlighted. We also discussed expanding the content from his original blog, and narrowed in on a particular audience for the final project.

This meeting was followed by several design/development sprints in Articulate Rise. The client was provided a review link to give quick feedback on the course. The design of the course went through several iterations as the client learned more about the power of the authoring tool, and realized new content that would be appropriate for the audience. Using the initial blog as a starting off point I authored all of the copy for the course. The design cycles were repeated until neither I nor the client could see further room for improvement.
